Does the Tang Center cover dental?

No. University Health Services provides medical care at the Tang Center, but dental care is not offered there. If you are on SHIP, the student plan includes dental benefits administered through a dental network with covered cleanings and an annual benefit cap; the exact benefits change by plan year, so check the current numbers at uhs.berkeley.edu. Either way, the visit itself happens at a local dental office you choose.

What if you are on SHIP?

Bring your SHIP details to your first visit, or call ahead with them. We verify what your plan covers and put the estimate in writing before any treatment, so you know your out-of-pocket before you commit to anything. That includes the free stuff: if your plan covers cleanings and exams, you will see that in the written plan too.

What if you waived SHIP and have your parents' insurance?

Most students on a family plan have a PPO. Total Health Dental Care accepts every major PPO, and if we do not take yours, the first visit is free, so it costs nothing to find out. Your coverage works in Berkeley even if your family dentist is back home; you do not need a referral to be seen here.

What if you have no dental insurance at all?
