Does Total Health Dental Care Take My Insurance? PPO, Delta Dental, HMO, Medi-Cal and Medicare Explained
The question we hear most on the phone is simple: do you take my insurance? Here is the straight answer for all 13 Total Health Dental Care offices in Oakland, Berkeley, Alameda, Albany, Emeryville and Belmont.
The short answer
PPO plans: yes. We accept all major PPO dental plans, including Delta Dental, MetLife, Cigna, Aetna, Guardian, Anthem Blue Cross, Principal, UMR, Beam and UC Berkeley SHIP.
HMO plans: no. This includes DeltaCare USA and Kaiser dental HMOs. You can still see us as a self-pay or membership patient.
Medi-Cal (Denti-Cal): no. We are not a Medi-Cal provider.
Medicare: Original Medicare does not cover routine dental care. Our in-house membership plan covers what Medicare does not.
No insurance: your first visit is an $89 new-patient exam, and our membership plans start at $300 a year.
How PPO insurance works at Total Health Dental Care
We check your benefits before your visit and submit your claims for you. Before any treatment, you get a written estimate with your exact share, so there are no surprises. Exams, cleanings and X-rays are priced the same as in-network PPO plans, so for most patients with PPO coverage, preventive visits are covered.
Delta Dental
Yes, we see patients with Delta Dental PPO every day. Total Health Dental Care is out of network with Delta Dental, so Delta sends its payment for your visit to you instead of to us. Our team explains exactly how that works before your visit. You can read the details on our Delta Dental page.
HMO, Kaiser and Medi-Cal
HMO plans and Medi-Cal require you to use a clinic inside their network. We are not part of those networks, so we cannot bill them. If you have an HMO or Kaiser dental plan and want to see us anyway, you can come in as a self-pay patient or join our membership plan.
On Medicare or no insurance?
Most people find out at 65 that Medicare pays for almost no dental work. Our in-house membership replaces dental insurance. The Standard Cleaning Plan is $300 a year and includes two cleanings plus unlimited exams and X-rays, with no deductibles, copays or claim forms. The Loyalty Plan is $600 a year and adds 50% off treatment with our dentists and specialists, up to $2,000 in savings per plan year. See our dental plan for seniors or the membership page.
For larger treatment, Cherry offers 12-month interest-free payment plans for eligible patients. You can apply from your phone in about two minutes.
Specialists are covered the same way
Your plan works the same with our oral surgeon, root canal specialist, gum specialist and orthodontist at our Rotunda Specialty Center, 300 Frank H. Ogawa Plaza, Suite 100, in downtown Oakland. No outside referral is needed.
Not sure about your plan?
